So, whether you've noticed or not, I've been MIA for awhile on the social media scene, especially with respect to my fitness. To be honest, I've been wrestling with my ego for the better part of 3 years now. Over two years ago, I decided to go back into Engineering, take my fitness passion and business back to a part time endeavour, and scale back my social media efforts big time in an effort to re-balance my life and settle into my career(s).

It's been great, because been blessed to have found two completely different careers that I love, and which both give me so much. It's a wonderful blend of things I am passionate about.

However, I've been wanting to re-build a presence on social media, to re-invigorate my blog and newsletter, and build the online business that I had always brainstormed. But I keep waiting and waiting, mainly because I keep wanting to "do it right". I'm afraid to post photos that don't look picture perfect, and then give up when I feel like I'm spending too much time trying to capture a photo. Ugh, there goes that need for perfectionism again.

he hesitation to start working towards a goal for fear of it not being perfect is so prevalent, and it will kill any endeavour or goal if you don't stop working towards perfection. People are afraid to start exercising, get a trainer, or join a fitness class because they want to get in shape first. When I got injured, I began gaining weight because I couldn't exercise and was eating poorly to deal with the depression from the injury. I refused to wear the same short shorts, bikini or cute summer clothes. I kept thinking that when I lost the weight I would have that confidence back. Some people won't release a book, painting, or other project they are working on because they don't think it's good enough. In reality, we don't improve and get into our "flow" until we just start "doing". I relate this to Yoga, where it's called a "practice", implying that there is always something to learn and change and improve.

My point?! If you want to move forward towards a goal, you need to just get started. It does not have to be perfect. If you look at any accomplished entrepreneur, they go through a wonderful journey of growth, and their earlier work sometimes seems basic. But they can't become successful without first just getting started and putting out "imperfect" work.

So, this is my call to action for you, and for me. I'll be writing blogs again. I'll be posting "not-so-perfect" photos on social media when I think they are worth sharing and will stimulate thought and hopefully motivate someone. I will be sharing my journey of healing my injury even though my ego doesn't want to show the world that I'm still struggling with an injury that prevents a lot of physical exercise.

In return, I ask that you commit to starting work on your goal. Write down those dreams - I don't care how big and scary they are. Then, do something to move in that direction, and share it with someone to make it real. You will get in the flow so soon, and the world needs your gifts!

xoxo,

Leigh
